Getting Started with Your Ledger

Follow these simple steps to set up your hardware wallet and begin securing your cryptocurrency assets. The entire process takes less than 15 minutes.

1

Unbox Your Ledger Device

Carefully unpack your Ledger hardware wallet and ensure all components are included: the device, USB cable, recovery sheet, and getting started leaflet. Verify the security seal is intact and hasn't been tampered with.

2

Download Ledger Live

Install the official Ledger Live application on your computer or mobile device. This is your gateway to managing your crypto assets securely. Available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android platforms.

3

Initialize Your Device

Connect your Ledger device and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your PIN code. Write down your 24-word recovery phrase on the provided recovery sheet and store it in a secure location. Never share this phrase with anyone.

4

Install Apps & Start Securing

Use Ledger Live to install cryptocurrency apps on your device. Each blockchain requires its own app. Once installed, you can receive, send, and manage your digital assets with complete security and peace of mind.

Important: Always download Ledger Live from the official Ledger website. Never enter your recovery phrase on any website or share it with anyone, including Ledger support.

Industry-Leading Security Features

Ledger hardware wallets provide multiple layers of security to protect your digital assets from all types of threats, both online and offline.

Bank-Grade Security

Your private keys are stored in a certified secure chip (CC EAL5+), the same technology used in passports and credit cards. This ensures your assets remain protected even if your computer is compromised.

Offline Cold Storage

Ledger devices operate completely offline, keeping your private keys isolated from internet-connected devices. This cold storage approach eliminates the risk of remote hacking attempts and online vulnerabilities.

Transaction Verification

Every transaction must be physically verified and approved on your Ledger device screen. This ensures that what you see is what you sign, protecting you from malware and phishing attacks on your computer.

PIN Protection

Your device is protected by a PIN code that you set during initialization. After three incorrect attempts, the device automatically resets, ensuring unauthorized users cannot access your funds.

Everything you need to know about getting started with Ledger

A Ledger hardware wallet is a physical device that stores your cryptocurrency private keys offline in a secure chip. Unlike software wallets, your keys never leave the device, providing maximum security against hacking, malware, and phishing attacks. It's the safest way to store and manage your digital assets.

Setting up your Ledger device typically takes 10-15 minutes. This includes unboxing, downloading Ledger Live, initializing your device, setting a PIN code, and writing down your 24-word recovery phrase. The process is straightforward and guided step-by-step through the Ledger Live application.

Your 24-word recovery phrase is a backup of your private keys. If your Ledger device is lost, stolen, or damaged, you can use this phrase to restore access to your funds on a new device. It's crucial to write it down on the provided recovery sheet and store it in a secure location. Never share it with anyone or store it digitally.

Yes! Ledger Nano X and Ledger Stax support Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to manage your crypto on the go with the Ledger Live mobile app (available for iOS and Android). The Ledger Nano S Plus connects via USB-C and works with computers and compatible mobile devices using an adapter.

Ledger devices support over 5,500 cryptocurrencies and tokens, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Litecoin, and thousands of ERC-20 tokens. You can manage multiple cryptocurrencies simultaneously by installing the corresponding apps through Ledger Live. New cryptocurrencies are regularly added to the ecosystem.

Yes, your funds remain secure even if your device is stolen. Your Ledger is protected by a PIN code, and after three incorrect attempts, the device automatically resets. Without your PIN and recovery phrase, no one can access your funds. You can then restore your accounts on a new Ledger device using your recovery phrase.
